Our Journey
nEW bEGINNINGS
In 2020, while living in New York City with their first child on the way, Joel and Madeline packed up their car and moved across the country to Los Angeles, CA. They had purchased an untouched mid-century home in the Silver Lake hills and quickly got to work. Drawing on Joel’s carpentry skills (learned building theatrical sets in college) and inspired by the original mid-century design of the home, Joel and Madeline designed and renovated the entire home and developed a passion for restoration in the process.
Growing Together
With a newfound love for construction and another baby on the way, Joel and Madeline loaded up the car yet again and headed for home in New Orleans. Joel went back to school to study construction management and gain a better understanding of modern building science. Now a fully licensed general contractor, Joel formed Topaz Restorations and got to work restoring the historic homes of New Orleans.
